Auto insurance is a contract between you and the insurance company. You agree to pay the premium and the insurance company agrees to pay your losses as defined in your policy.
Auto insurance provides property, liability and medical coverage:
- Property coverage pays for damage to or theft of your car.
- Liability coverage pays for your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage.
- Medical coverage pays for the cost of treating injuries, rehabilitation and sometimes lost wages and funeral expenses.
Key Car Insurance Coverage’s
1.) Liability Coverage: This coverage pays damages due to bodily injury and property damage to others for which you are responsible, even for your defense and court costs in case if you get sued. Property damage includes damage to property and loss of use
2.) Limited Property Damage Liability Coverage: In Michigan, you are liable for damage caused to another vehicle and may be sued for amounts up to $500
3.) Bodily Injury: For injuries the policyholder causes to someone else
4.) Personal Injury Protection (PIP): This Coverage pays for bodily injury to you, any other person while occupying or injured as a pedestrian in accordance with No-fault Act. PIP can cover medical payments, lost wages and the cost of replacing services normally performed by someone injured in an auto accident
5.) Collision: For damage to the policyholder's car with another object, the collision could be with another car, a light post, fire hydrant, etc, but only for the amount of loss in excess of the deductible amount as explained in the policy
6.) Comprehensive: For damage to the policyholder's car that doesn't involve a collision with another car. Covered risks include fire, wind, hail, vandalism, or hitting a bird, animal, theft, falling objects, missiles, explosion, earthquake, flood, riot and civil commotion.
7.) Uninsured Motor Vehicle Coverage: Pays for damages when an insured is injured in a car accident caused by another person who does not have any liability insurance
8.) Underinsured Motor Vehicle: Pays for damages when an insured is injured in a car accident whose limits are less than the limits you chose for this coverage
9.) Emergency Road Service Coverage: Covers towing to the nearest place where repairs can be made, delivery of gas, oil, battery, or change of tire, but not the cost of such items
10.)Car Rental: Pays up to the amount you chose when you rent a car while your car is not drivable due to loss that would be payable under comprehensive coverage or collision coverage
